Discussing contemporary physics

Status:Active, open to new members

When: Monthly 2:00 pm-4:00 pm
Venue: The Bridewell (Odiham library)

Physics is a fascinating subject involved in many areas of science and technology. It is a study of the very big to the very small – everything from how the Universe works to the particles that make up atoms, as well as scientifically explaining our everyday physical experiences.

This group discusses contemporary physics topics of mutual interest.

Stimulus material for discussions would be provided by members in advance of each session. This would enable the review of a variety of physics topics drawing upon source material that could include articles, books, simple practical demonstrations and online media or simply questions about physical phenomena that have always puzzled you!

We make the sessions as accessible as possible. It is not expected that the group will to be drawn into complex mathematical calculations but rather focus on physics concepts and their applications. That said, a reasonable grasp of basic physics concepts is likely to be an advantage.

This group affiliated to the Science and Technology group, but open to the wider Odiham District u3a membership.

Bryan Berry, who has a background in physics/science education and aircraft engineering has offered to facilitate the meetings on a monthly basis.
