Farnham - March 2026

Our first visit of the calendar year was relatively local as we went to Farnham. The last time we visited this historic town was in 2022 and we thought it worth another visit. We split into 2 groups with 2 very knowledgeable guides.

Farnham has a rich history, dating back to prehistoric times. Today it is a thriving market town nestled within the Surrey Hills and located less than an hour from London and the coast. Sitting on the banks of the River Wey and surrounded by woodland, the town is crowned by a magnificent deer park and castle.

Farnham Castle, built in 1138, served as the residence of the Bishops of Winchester for over 800 years and remains a significant medieval complex in Surrey. Today it is a popular wedding and conference venue.
Just one of our groups enjoying the day.
Lion & Lamb Yard, a popular retail and dining area

Lower Church Lane with houses dating back to the 1840's.

Road works in the centre of the town rather spoilt the views but it did mean that the roads were very quiet.
St Andrew’s Church is a Grade 1 listed building with a rich history dating back to the 7th century. The oldest parts of the present building were constructed between 1150 & 1170 with the chancel and east end of the church being completed in 1399.
Farnham town hall buildings, built in the 1930’s, replacing a Victorian market house & corn exchange.

Farnham Maltings is one of the busiest and most diverse arts centres in Surrey, offering a programme of events, including theatre, cinema, craft, music, comedy and workshops.
