We last visited Hartley Wintney in 2015 so thought it was about time we had another look – not that anything would have changed 😊.
20 of us enjoyed a very informative talk and tour of the village, some of us seeing parts that we’d never been to before.

Hartley Wintney dates back to the 12th century when Wintney Priory of Cistercian nuns was founded there.
These days the village has a population of approx. 5,000.
There are many old and listed buildings in the village:

Causeway Farm and barn, which dates from 17th century

Causeway Pond
Hartley Wintney cricket green. The club was formed in 1770 and continues to play on one of the oldest greens in the country.

Mildmay Oaks in Green Lane - In 1805 Admiral Collingwood, who was in command of the Navy after the battle of Trafalgar, appealed to landowners to plant oaks to ensure a ready supply of wood for the Royal Navy. Lady Mildmay, who became Lady of the Manor in 1786, instructed her steward to plant acorns. Luckily the wood was never needed and these beautiful trees still stand today.
