It’s a well known fact that dancing is excellent for both physical and mental well-being.

Ballet is an excellent form of exercise because it helps with balance, flexibility, spatial awareness and is also a great memory booster. It’s an all round improver of strength and general health.

The class begins with a light-hearted warm up in the centre and this is followed by barre exercises which focus on posture, technique, core strength and working both sides of the body equally.

We then move into the centre of the room. The aim of the centre work is to build on steps learned at the barre then put them together to form short sequences which can then be incorporated into little dances where a real sense of performance is achieved.

We work hard but have fun, always encouraged by our tutor, Judy McDougall’s, kind words. Judy literally keeps us on our toes by adding extra details to the exercises as we go on and introducing a new set of barre exercises each half term.

We are all of differing abilities and experiences but we always come away with a real sense of achievement and have fun learning the ballet steps and techniques.

Sadly we are not in a position to take new members at the moment but if you are interested, please enquire and you can be placed on our waiting list. We will always invite you for a taster class to see if you like it, before making any commitment.

Here’s what some of our members think…

“Judy’s classes are a delight, each session allowing us to make gentle progress as we learn new steps accompanied by a wonderful selection of music.”

“The enforced break highlighted how much I miss the fitness aspects of this enjoyable ballet class”

“Judy’s ballet sessions are such fun and imaginative. They keep us in good shape both physically and mentally.”
